There two hormones cause you to gain or lose weight and both are either increase or decrease by the amount of sleep you have each night.
The first hormone is called Ghrelin whose purpose is to tell us when we need to eat.
Lack of sleep will cause you to over produce Ghrelin causing weight gain.
The second hormone is Leptin, it is the hormone that tells us to stop eating. When you don’t get enough sleep you under produce Leptin, also causing us to overeat.
Too little Leptin and too much Ghrelin caused by lack of sleep will cause you to gain weight.
To compound the injury your metabolism slows down when you suffer from lack of sleep.
The brain, which is the most energy-intensive organ in your body, it uses sleep to clean out the waste it produces during the cause of your waking hours.
If the waste is not removed from your brain during sleep it brings on many problems associated with weight gain, depression, and dementia.
Sleep apnea comes in two forms, Obstructive sleep apnea and Central sleep apnea.
You may have either one of the forms of sleep apnea and or even know it.
Symptoms of sleep apnea are gasping or choking sounds along with snoring.
